Learn about Patricia Fike, the Graduate Academic Advisor for the Department of Geology & Geophysics

Jun 1, 2018

Trisha Fike began her career at Texas A&M in May 2016 as the graduate advisor for the Department of Geology and Geophysics. Some of Trisha’s responsibilities include advising graduate students, performing a variety of administrative duties, participating with the graduate committee, collecting department data for the graduate program, assisting prospective students, and coordinating the department orientation for new students. Trisha enjoys participating as a Marshall at graduation ceremonies, helping the graduate students and faculty navigate OGAPS timelines, and working with the Graduate Director, Dr. Mark Everett and the Department Head, Dr. Mike Pope in having a successful graduate program. One of her first tasks as the graduate advisor was to create a new graduate handbook, which can be viewed on the department’s website. She served as co-chair on the Advisor Briefing Day committee, and as a member of the UAC monthly committee.  Student success is most important to Trisha, and you will often hear her say to students, faculty, and staff that “we are in this together.” Trisha feels blessed to have been a full-time mom to her sons, Derek and Darren Fike, for 26 years. When her sons started elementary school, she began earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Management Minor from The University of Southern Mississippi – Gulf Coast. This was her first experience as a non-traditional college student. After her sons went off to college, Trisha earned her Master of Education from The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. The emphasis of her Master’s Degree is in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education. She moved to Oxford, Mississippi for one year where she attended The University of Mississippi and enjoyed taking graduate classes at Ole Miss, but she mostly enjoyed being there with her son and experiencing life in a college town. Being a Native Texan, Trisha was thrilled to move back to the great state of Texas and College Station to begin her career at Texas A&M University. Trisha enjoys living in Aggieland, watching sports and movies, cooking and eating, spending time with friends and family, and of course, being the graduate advisor of Geology & Geophysics.
